I really like keeping promises that I make, and I made a promise a couple days ago that I would share this cake recipe soon, so here I am, keeping my promise. I'm pretty nice like that. Most days. Let's have a chat about this cake. First of all, Velvet Cake. Why am I calling it Velvet Cake? Well, you see, normally one might call it Red Velvet Cake. However, this is one of my wonderful Grandmother's recipes and she was not a food dye person. I don't know that she ever made this cake using Read more [...]
Well, the Superbowl was a little disappointing this year to say the least. I feel pretty terrible for Peyton Manning. Poor guy. But the Seahawks dominated, so congratulations to them. Superbowl aside, things have been pretty crazy around here with really sick kids and opening my husband's Chiropractic practice! We are absolutely thrilled that he has opened his doors and now we just need to find some more patients.
A few weeks ago, a good friend of mine asked for a really good Banana Cream Read more [...]
Recipe lightly adapted from here
When I first saw this recipe on Pinterest, I got excited. I know recipes can be hit or miss, so I started with very low expectations. I modified things a little to suit my liking, and the result was out of this world! It literally was a party in my mouth. I sent the leftovers with my husband to school and everyone raved about these bars. Several people told him they were the best dessert they'd ever tried and a couple people bugged him for the next few Read more [...]
I love apples and I love a good apple crisp. By good apple crisp I mean more crisp than apples. In fact, really just a couple apples with a whole lot of topping. That defines good apple crisp for me. This apple crisp meets and exceeds my expectations of good apple crisp. In fact, when I had a plate full of it last night, I had so much topping that I had to go back and get more apples. Shocker. (I may have also fished for more topping in the first place which caused my problem. Shhhh.)

I love cheesecake. I love pumpkin. I love candied pecans. Why not put them all together in this Pumpkin Cheesecake Dip with Candied Pecans?
Leia and I had a blast creating this dip. We started off by making a delicious batch of her Soft & Chewy Ginger cookies. While those were cooling and our attempts at keeping our children's grabby hands away were failing, we threw together a few things in a bowl and created some Pumpkin Cheesecake dip.
It was good, but didn't have that wow factor Read more [...]
These are seriously everything you could want in a cookie: melty chocolate, gooey center, crisp edges, and they stay soft and delicious even if you leave them uncovered on the counter overnight! ...not that I have ample experience doing that...
When beating the butter and sugar together, it should look light and fluffy, like the first picture below. Add the eggs, one at a time, and gently mix until each egg is incorporated into the dough before adding the next. I keep my stand mixer Read more [...]
This is one of my favorite caramel dips of all time. It is really simple, easy, and comes together in about five minutes. I haven't met anyone who didn't like it. This caramel is not too thick and not too thin. If dipping apples is not your thing, try it as a caramel sauce over ice cream, brownies, or with other foods like pretzels.
You'll notice in the recipe that it calls for margarine instead of butter. This is very uncharacteristic of me. And there is an explanation for it. For whatever Read more [...]
Ready for some seriously delicious chocolate cake? While some might think it's just another sheet cake, my family and I submit that it is not! Thus, we lovingly call it Texas FUDGE Cake. In case you can't tell from the pictures, the frosting is quite literally chocolate fudge, just a little thinned out.
The actual cake part is pretty fudgey too. Super moist, a little dense, and full of rich chocolate flavor. This cake is an undisputed favorite among Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Read more [...]

This is a cake I cannot take any credit for. Everyone, meet my Grandma Christensen. Otherwise known as Zoe (rhymes with boy, not zoh-ee), otherwise nicknamed Zeke and Zed with Grandpa (I'm still not sure which is which...).
On Sunday, November 17, 2013, it will mark 10 years since the passing of this incredible woman. If there is anyone, besides my mom, that I strive to be like, it's my Grandma C. She was the most loving, compassionate, Read more [...]
I have heard so much about the peanut butter bars that the lunch ladies at elementary school used to make. But, since I was homeschooled, I've never tried them. Not to completely stray away from their roots, one of my English teachers in College brought these to class one day. It was seriously the best day ever. Not only did she bring delicious cookies, she provided us all with copies of the recipe!
I tweaked a couple things to make it more my style and taste, but the bones are the same. Read more [...]
